PALLIATIVE CARE PROGRAM FOR REGISTERED NURSES
Humber College continues its tradition of innovation and leadership in high quality
nursing education with the introduction of our new Post Diploma Program in Palliative
Care for Registered Nurses. Courses will be offered in the Winter, Spring and
Fall semesters.
This new Post Diploma Palliative Care Program is designed for Registered Nurses who have a special interest in issues surrounding end-of-life care, death and bereavement, nurses who would like to move into the palliative care field, or nurses currently on the palliative care team who would like to enhance their specialized skills and knowledge. The Program consists of six theory courses and a practicum under the mentorship of a palliative care practitioner.
The curriculum includes:
- Care for the Whole Person: Physical, Emotional, Social and Spiritual Dynamics
- Pain Control and Symptom Management: Drug, Holistic and Complementary Therapies
- Support for the Dying Person and His/Her Significant Others
- Political, Ethical and Legal Issues
- Skills for Promoting Effective Communication in Palliative Care
- Cultural/Religious, Age-Appropriate and Disease-Specific Issues

A UNIQUE PART-TIME DEGREE COMPLETION PROGRAM FOR REGISTERED NURSES
The University of New Brunswick, in conjunction
with the School of Health Sciences, Humber College, is offering a
Bachelor of Nursing for Registered Nurses (BN/RN) program via distance
education at Humber.
This unique degree completion program especially designed for practising RNs features:
- 57 credit hours of part-time study
- fewer than half the credit hours necessary to complete the basic UNB Nursing Degree
- all course work at Humber College (on site or by distance education)
- no residency requirement
- assessment for credit of previous university/certificate course work

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (ECE)
The School of Health Sciences offers four ECE programs:
- a diploma program that provides graduates with the
knowledge and skills needed to work with preschool children
- a post-diploma program of advanced studies for ECE graduates
to increase their knowledge and skills
- a post-diploma program whose graduates are qualified
to be resource teachers and consultants working with children with special needs
- a workshop series to develop skills of supervisors in child care facilities

FIRST AID/CPR
These courses offered by the School of Health Sciences are designed to teach
First Aid and CPR lifesaving skills:
CPR: Basic; Basic Retraining; Infant/Child; Instructor; and Instructor Retraining
First Aid: Emergency/CPR -- Heartsaver; Standard; Standard/CPR -- Basic; and
Standard/CPR -- Infant/Child

CPR Re-Certification for Health Care Professionals
The Emergency Skills Department in the School of Health Sciences offers an
accelerated and economical CPR re-certification program for health care professionals.
For groups of five to eight, an instructor will come to your location and provide
staff with an update in their Adult, Child and Infant skills.
Classes are no
more than two hours in length and the cost is $30.00 per student. A Basic
Rescuer Manual may also be purchased for an additional $7.00.
Successful
completion leads to a Basic Rescuer C Level certificate from the Heart and
Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

PERSONAL SUPPORT TRAINING PROGRAMS
Graduates of the Personal Attendant and the Personal Support Worker programs (Personal Support Training Programs) are eligible to seek employment opportunities that were formerly associated with health care aides, homemakers or home support workers, home helpers and personal attendants. The length of the program taken will determine which level of career the worker wants to attain.

assignments.
